“The true method of knowledge is experiment.” -William Blake

In this course, we will collaborate to build several AR and VR apps of art historical significance. A series of case studies will explore how museums and cultural heritage specialists use technology to reach out to communities commonly disregarded or underserved by academic art history. We will learn to develop interactive experiences using the Unity engine, and you will come out of the class with several portfolio pieces that will showcase your skills in whatever art historical or design oriented field that you might pursue in the future.

And of course, we will spend lots of time exploring, theorizing, and enjoying virtual and augmented reality.

This course fulfills the following Major requirements: geographical area (E) and chronological period (III), based on the topic of the final research paper or project.

Contact the instructor at justinunderhill@berkeley.edu for information about how to apply for this course.
