AnnaLee Saxenian is Dean and Professor in the School of Information and professor in the Department of City and Regional Planning at the University of California, Berkeley.

Born in Switzerland in 1967, Greg Niemeyer studied Classics and Photography. He started working with new media when he arrived in the Bay Area in 1992 and he received his MFA from Stanford University in New Media in 1997. At the same time, he founded the Stanford University Digital Art Center, which he directed until 2001, when he was appointed at UC Berkeley as Assistant Professor for New Media. At UC Berkeley, he is involved in the development of the Center for New Media, focusing on the critical analysis of the impact of new media on human experiences.

Cathryn Carson is a historian and ethnographer of contemporary science and technology. Before getting her PhD in history, she was trained in computational condensed matter physics. As Associate Dean of Social Sciences, she built D-Lab, which opened in 2013 and serves social scientists (and others) across campus doing data-intensive research. Her historical research is on Heidegger and science, including theoretical physics and conceptions of data and on risk and simulations in nuclear waste management.

Edmund Campion is currently Professor of Music Composition and Director at the Center for New Music and Audio Technologies at the University of California, Berkeley. He has received the American Rome Prize, the Lili Boulanger Prize, The Paul Fromm Award at Tanglewood, the Goddard Lieberson Fellowship given by the American Academy of Arts and Letters, and, most recently, a Guggenheim Fellowship.

Dr. Claudia von Vacano is the Executive Director of the D-Lab and the Digital Humanities at Berkeley, and is on the boards of the Social Science Matrix and Berkeley Center for New Media.

Anthony J. Cascardi is Dean of Arts and Humanities at the University of California, Berkeley. He is also Professor of Comparative Literature, Rhetoric, and Spanish. He is former Director of the Townsend Center for the Humanities and of the Arts Research Center. Cascardi’s research interests include the relations between literature and philosophy; aesthetic theory; the novel; and early modern Europe.
