The Digital Humanities Summer Institute (DHSI) at the University of Victoria provides intensive, week-long courses in the application of tools, methodologies, or theories for engaging with digital humanities. Attracting hundreds of participants from around the world, DHSI is one of the largest gatherings of digital humanists in North America. Outside of class time, participants can meet potential collaborators at colloquiums, poster sessions, performances, and attendee-organized unconferences. Participants may enroll in one course per week. Due to growing demand, DHSI has been extended to multiple weeks, allowing participants to take more than one course in a single year.

Courses in prior years have included:

  • Digital Pedagogy Integration in the Curriculum
  • Stylometry with R: Computer-Assisted Analysis of Literary Texts
  • Understanding Topic Modeling
  • Crowdsourcing as a Tool for Research and Public Engagement
  • Web Development / Project Prototyping for Beginners with Ruby on Rails
  • Digitization Fundamentals and their Application
  • Feminist Digital Humanities: Theoretical, Social, and Material Engagements

Not sure what course to take? Consider some advice from past attendees or contact a digital humanities consultant for help selecting a courses and discussing training options available both on- and off-campus.
