The School of Information (also known as the I School) houses scholars in a variety of disciplines, such as information and computer science, design, social sciences, management, law, and policy. Currently, the I School hosts three degree programs:
- Master of Information Management and Systems (MIMS)
- Master of Information and Data Science (MIDS)
- Ph.D. program in Information Management & Systems
The I School’s multi-disciplinary focus has been a rich source of student and faculty collaboration for digital humanities projects. In the past, students and faculty have developed text analysis tools, coordinated the Berkeley Digital Humanities Working Group, and hosted hackathons for campus museums and digital archives.
Classes
The I School offers a variety of classes that are open to students from other departments (instructor permission may be required to enroll). While some courses are centered around building professional skills and applying them to digital projects, other courses examine topics such as cyberlaw and intellectual property in the digital era. Events
The I School regularly hosts open lectures on a variety topics in the field of information studies. The long-standing Information Access Seminar regularly invites speakers with interests related to museums, libraries, preservation, publishing, and digital media. The I School also hosts hands-on events like hackathons for nonprofits and unconferences on user experience, data science, information architecture, interaction design, informatics
