The Berkeley Center for New Media (BCNM) is an excellent resource for those interested in interdisciplinary research and collaboration. BCNM brings together students, researchers, industry figures, and the broader public to stimulate new perspectives on contemporary new media.
The Archaeological Research Facility (ARF) supports archaeological field and laboratory research conducted by U.C. Berkeley archaeologists and related specialists. The ARF raises funding, publishes reports, sponsors lectures and workshops, and provides equipment for archaeological analysis. ARF scholars and faculty associates come from a variety of departments and disciplines such as Geography, Anthropology, Near Eastern Studies, History, and Classics.
The Berkeley New Media Working group is a gathering of scholars from departments across campus who share an interest in the material, social, political, aesthetic, and philosophical implications of digital media. Topics range from art practice to coding to critical media studies. Anyone with an interest in new media is invited to attend.
The E-Lit Critical Making Group will gather to explore tools for electronic literature and use them for creative work. Tools of interest include Twine, Inform 7, Undum, Flash, generative grammars, bots, and the Python Natural Language Tool Kit. No experience with programming or digital tools is required, but interest in the subject matter is key.
The Visual Resources Center (VRC) supports History of Art scholars in the areas of digital teaching, image research, 3D modeling, audiovisual support, and copyright permissions.
The GSI Teaching & Resource Center helps graduate students transition to teaching as GSIs at UC Berkeley. The Center offers programs and services to assist graduate students in developing their teaching skills for future academic and nonacademic careers. Several programs are also aimed at assisting faculty and departments in mentoring and collaborating with graduate student instructors.
The mission of the Center for Teaching and Learning is to enrich, promote, and support teaching and learning effectiveness in the areas of pedagogy, curriculum, and assessment. The assessment process combines introspection, outreach, and the utilization of both qualitative and quantitative methods to improve teaching, curriculum, and student advising. CTL supports both individual instructors and academic units and programs.
The UC Berkeley Center for New Music and Audio Technologies (CNMAT) houses a dynamic group of educational, performance, and research programs focused on the creative interaction between music and technology. CNMAT’s events program offers a range of concerts, lectures and other public events informed by our research and pedagogy efforts.
