CFP: Crowdsourcing and the Academy

Digital Humanities at Berkeley is pleased to announce the Crowdsourcing and the Academy symposium is accepting proposals through August 16, 2015. Though crowdsourcing is commonly associated with citizen science, the digital humanities are rich with examples of crowdsourcing projects. The Transcribe Bentham project, which began in 2010, serves as an early example of crowdsourcing efforts in DH.

Learning to Code, Learning to Collaborate

Over the 2014-2015 year, I was a historian in an engineering school. As a postdoc at the Coleman Fung Institute for Engineering Leadership at UC Berkeley, I had the opportunity to collaborate with Professor Lee Fleming and his team on using a world-leading database of patent data to develop data visualizations for better understanding the history of technology.
