Digital Humanities at Berkeley has received a $2 million grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, as reported by the UC Berkeley News Center:
“This grant will enable us to offer intensive summer training workshops for faculty and students, to introduce them to a range of tools and methods, while providing the critical frameworks for reflection on their impact,” said [Dean of Arts and Humanities Anthony] Cascardi.
Berkeley Prosopography Services (BPS) is a digital tool kit that supports the disambiguation of namesakes in text corpora, computes social network metrics, and generates interactive visualizations of those networks. Within the framework of the Social Science Matrix Prospecting Seminars, BPS is developing new research partners, both on and off campus.
Digital Humanities at Berkeley would like to encourage UC Berkeley faculty, graduate students and staff to apply for grants for creating new digital humanities courses, integrating digital humanities components into existing courses, and for collaborative research. The full RFP is now available. Applicants must submit a brief statement of interest by December 12, 2014. Proposals are due January 12, 2015, with notification by February 10, 2015.
The SMART mentoring program pairs doctoral students with undergraduate students to work as a two-person team on a research project during the summer semester. The projects are proposed by the graduate students and then advertised to undergraduates, who may apply to whichever projects fit their major and interests.
